The bus stop for Qilai Trailhead is next to the Visitor Center, near public toilets.
You can pay a visit to that Visitor Center, it’s worth to know about the local weather forecast (which is different from the National Weather Forecast CWB).
You can have a look at the map.
And enjoy a little bit of warmness ah ah ah.
Then, head to the trailhead in direction of the SongXue Lodge, a white squared building.
Just below that building (where you can sleep if you booked it),
you will see the iconic stone monument showing the entrance of Qilai Mountain!
The box for the permit is just there.
We hid bags with dry clothes in the tall grass then we started, completely excited.
And boom! Just 30 min later we met National Park Rangers who were controlling the permits!
It was a Monday…
Qilai Mountain Trailhead :
You MUST HAVE the Taroko National Park Permit 太魯閣國家公園生態保護區入園許可證

NOTE: Reach the top of Qilai North Peak before 9 am! because at 9.15 am it’s often in the fog, then you go to Qilai Main Peak.
NOTE: Qilai North Peak is VERY CHALLENGING and SCARY, there are ropes left over there to help you climb but do not trust at 100%, do not put all your weight on these ropes.
